Bookkeeping, tax preparation and IRS letter help for San Jose small businesses
Ray Torres keeps the books, prepares the returns, and helps you make sense of it when a letter from the IRS shows up. One office in East San Jose since 2000, one person who knows your file, and a phone that gets answered.

Tower Accounting has been on Blue Mountain Drive in East San Jose since 2000. Ray Torres started the firm to give small business owners the kind of attention the big tax chains and the big downtown firms do not have time for: someone who knows your business, picks up the phone, and explains what the numbers mean in plain English.
Our mission is simple. We want every client to be able to read their own profit and loss statement and balance sheet and understand what the business is telling them. When you can see which jobs make money, which months run tight, and what you will owe in April, you make better decisions all year. That is what we mean by "where the bottom line counts."
What working with us looks like
- One point of contact. You deal with Ray, not a rotating call center. The person who keeps your books is the person who prepares your return and the person who explains any letter that follows.
- Plain answers. Receipts, bills and agency notices get explained, not just filed. If something looks off, you hear about it before it becomes a problem.
- Clear pricing. Bookkeeping follows a rate sheet based on how many transactions you run each month, and you see it before any work starts.
- Audit-ready records. We have prepared records for California sales tax audits and workers' comp premium audits for years, and we help clients answer IRS and state letters. When a case needs an enrolled agent, CPA or attorney, we say so up front.
- Local and reachable. Walk-ins welcome Monday to Friday. Saturday by appointment. Email and secure file upload if you would rather not drive.
Who we work with
Contractors and trades, restaurants and food trucks, auto shops, salons, landscapers, trucking owner-operators, real estate agents, consultants, and families who want their personal return done by someone they can actually talk to.
Who we are not
We are not a national chain, a seasonal pop-up, or an app. If you want a person in San Jose who will know your file next year too, that is us.
Getting started takes one conversation
Call or send a note
Tell us what you have: a business, a shoebox of receipts, a QuickBooks file that stopped balancing, or a letter from the IRS. Ten minutes is usually enough.
Get the rate sheet
We look at your volume and what needs doing. Bookkeeping follows our rate sheet by monthly transaction count. Tax returns and audit work are quoted before we start.
Hand over the paperwork
Drop it at the office, email it, or upload it. We set up secure access to your bank feeds and accounting software if you want us to.
Get reports you can read
Monthly statements, a quarterly check-in on where the year is heading, and a tax return with no surprises in it.

Questions people ask before they call

How much does bookkeeping cost in San Jose?
It depends on how many transactions you run each month, how many accounts need reconciling, and whether there is catch-up work. After a short conversation we give you our rate sheet, which is based on how many transactions you run each month, so you know the cost before any work starts. There is no charge for the conversation.
Do you work with both businesses and individuals?
Yes. Most of our clients are small business owners, and we prepare their personal returns alongside the business return so nothing falls through the cracks. We also prepare individual returns for people who are not business owners.
Can you help if I am behind on my books or have unfiled returns?
Yes. Catch-up bookkeeping and late filings are a normal part of our work. We rebuild the books from bank and card statements, prepare the missing returns, and if there is a balance due we help you request a payment plan with the IRS or the Franchise Tax Board.
